Aaron Rodgers is the kind of quarterback that can be dangerous with just about any weapon at his disposal. He’s made careers out of guys like Jared Abbrederis Youth Ziggy Ansah Jersey , Jarrett Boykin and James Jones. But this week against the Detroit Lions, it may an even bigger challenge for Rodgers. At Thursday’s practice, Rodgers was missing his top three receivers. Green Bay has already been practicing without Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison. Cobb suffered a hamstring injury in prior to last week’s game against the Bills, and Allison has been in concussion protocol after suffering a brain injury last week. But during Wednesday’s practice, their No. 1 receiver, Davante Adams, suffered a calf injury and couldn’t finish the session, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. He didn’t practice Thursday. That leaves Green Bay’s receiving corps completely decimated. Their top three receivers? All rookies: fourth-rounder J’Mon Moore, fifth-rounder Marquez Valdes-Scantling and sixth-rounder Equanimeous St. Brown. Together, the three have combined for a total of two catches for 41 yards—all of which came from Valdes-Scantling. To make matters even worse, tight end Jimmy Graham missed Wednesday’s practice. He did return on Thursday Color Rush Graham Glasgow Jersey , but the Packers tight end has been dealing with a knee injury for a couple weeks now. Last week, hobbled by the knee injury, Graham managed just three catches for 21 yards and a score. Interestingly enough, Rodgers may be facing off against a beaten up secondary. Cornerback Quandre Diggs has been sporting a cast on his left hand at practice all week, Nevin Lawson was not at Thursday’s practice, and Tavon Wilson couldn’t finish last week’s game with a back injury. We’ve seen Rodgers work his devil magic before, and he’ll likely have to do it again if Green Bay wants to stay above .500.Notes: Jace Billingsley signing to New England Patriots’ practice squad While no Detroit Lions players that were waived or cut this weekend have found their way onto a 53-man roster as of Monday afternoon, a handful of players have jumped to other teams’ practice squads. The latest is former Lions receiver Jace Billingsley, who has reportedly signed with the New England Patriots. For the past two years, Billingsley has spent most of his time on the Lions’ practice squad after failing to make the team in back-to-back years. He was waived again this offseason, but there was no indication if the Lions wanted him back this time. ESPN’s Mike Reese seems to suggest Detroit tried to get him back Youth Marvin Jones Jr Jersey , noting that Billingsley “could have returned” but saw New England “as better opportunity.”Considering the Lions kept six wide receivers on the roster this year, including undrafted rookie Brandon Powell, it certainly makes sense on Billingsley’s end. In New England, he has a shot to be promoted to their regular roster at any time. With Julian Edelman serving a four-game suspension to start the year and New England dealing with a couple of injuries, Billingsley could be a good fit there. However, the Patriots were also awarded two receivers off waivers this weekend—Chad Hansen and Amara Darboh—who will offer some serious competition to Billingsley. It had been the least-kept secret, but the Detroit Lions will officially be facing off against Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold: The Athletic has a great piece on new Lions linebacker Marquis Flowers and how Matt Patricia used him during the 2017 AFC divisional playoff game against the Titans. In case you were wondering if the Lions made waiver claims on guys like Mario Edwards or Carl Davis... they did not: Jeff Risdon of Lions Wire has a nice, short profile on the newest Lions cornerback Dee Virgin. This has to be a good sign for the upcoming season, right? Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton thinks the Detroit Lions are one the biggest sleeper teams this year and believes they deserve more respect.
