ST. LOUIS (AP) — In a pivotal series for the Dodgers Miguel Andujar Jersey , rookie Walker Buehler came through with a masterful performance.Buehler allowed two hits in eight innings, Yasiel Puig homered twice and Los Angeles drew even with the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL wild-card race with a 3-0 victory on Friday night. The Dodgers also moved within one-half game of first-place Colorado in the NL West.Buehler (7-5) pitched beyond the seventh inning for the first time and earned his first victory since Aug. 17. He retired the first 13 batters before Paul DeJong singled to left field. Harrison Bader singled later in the fifth for the Cardinals’ only other hit.“This was probably the best pitching performance of the year,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “Not only Walker but across the board. Against a very good club in St. Louis on the road and obviously what’s at stake right now for each game. He wanted this moment and just coming out firing. His command. Just domination. He kind of did what he wanted to do tonight.”Buehler struck out nine and walked two. In two career starts against St. Louis, the right-hander has not allowed a run and has 18 strikeouts in 15 innings.“He’s got some serious weapons,” Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said. “He’s throwing 97-98 (mph), with command. When you can locate your fastball, regardless of velocity, that’s a nice weapon. Then you do it with that velocity and then you do it with some cut. And his cutter, at least from the side, it looked like it had some depth. Then second time through the lineup, start mixing in a changeup and hitting with that, that’s a pretty potent weaponry right there.”The Dodgers and Cardinals are tied for the second NL wild-card position http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey , four games behind Milwaukee for the top spot. But Los Angeles has its sights on the division crown and moved closer when the Rockies lost to San Francisco.“Sometimes there’s teams you match up well against,” Buehler said. “It’s hard to explain. It’s just the way the game works and luckily tonight that worked out.”Puig homered in the second off Jack Flaherty (8-7) and connected again in the ninth off Tyler Webb. It was his second multi-homer game of the season.“I was trying to do my best,” Puig said through a translator. “He threw a fastball there and I was able to connect with it. I can hit lefties sometimes and right there I was trying to find something up in the zone. I wasn’t expecting a home run but it happened.”In the seventh, Cody Bellinger scored on a passed ball by Yadier Molina.Kenley Jansen hit Yairo Munoz with a pitch to open the ninth but retired the next three batters to finish the two-hitter, earning his 35th save in 39 opportunities.Flaherty worked six innings, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. He has 168 strikeouts this season, the fourth-best total for a rookie in franchise history.“We want to win. I don’t care about my line. I don’t care about anything other than winning,” Flaherty said. “It doesn’t matter how I pitched, I didn’t pitch well enough. He pitched better than I did.”TRAINER’S ROOMDodgers: Relievers John Axford and Tony Cingrani were scheduled to pitch in the California Championship Series for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday night. “They’re stacking the deck, trying to help them make their playoff push,” Roberts joked. “They’re supposed to go an inning each. We’ll see how they come out of it. Our hope is to get these guys back.” Axford could return to the majors after one appearance, while Cingrani (shoulder) would likely need more rehab work.Cardinals: IF Jedd Gyorko is likely to return to the starting lineup Saturday Kendall Graveman Jersey , manager Mike Shildt said. He drew a pinch-hit walk in the eighth inning and was replaced by pinch-runner Adolis Garcia.UP NEXTThe Cardinals send right-hander John Gant (7-5, 3.16 ERA) to the mound Saturday afternoon to make his third career appearance and first start against Los Angeles. Veteran lefty Rich Hill (8-5, 3.88) starts for the Dodgers. Scott Taetsch/Getty ImagesThe MLB non-waiver trade deadline of Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET is rapidly approaching, but there won't be any players left on the trading block at the rate they are being dealt. On Thursday, Toronto Blue Jays southpaw J.A. Happ became a New York Yankee, Texas Rangers starting pitcher Cole Hamels traveled north to the Chicago Cubs (per Evan P. Grant of the Dallas Morning News), reliever Jonny Venters went from Tampa Bay to Atlanta and Chicago White Sox closer Joakim Soria joined the Milwaukee Brewers.Rumors continue to fly fast for others on the block, and here's a look at some news on three notable position players. Asdrubal CabreraNew York Mets second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera had a monster night at the dish on Thursday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in a 12-6 win over the scorching-hot Pittsburgh Pirates. That output left him with 18 home runs, 58 RBI and a .817 OPS after 98 games played this season. With the New York Mets sitting 14 games under .500, it's in their best interest to deal Cabrera while his stock is high.Per Buster Olney of ESPN, the Arizona Diamondbacks could be interested:Buster Olney Buster_ESPNArizona checking into Asdrubal Cabrera http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-jose-canseco-jersey , as it evaluates infield optionsThe D-backs are fighting to keep pace with the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, who sit 1.5 games ahead of Arizona in the division standings. From a long-term perspective, L.A. clearly has the edge after acquiring shortstop and four-time All-Star Manny Machado. Arizona has to make some plays before the deadline to try to keep pace, and acquiring Cabrera would certainly help.Through Thursday, Arizona had just the 23rd-ranked OPS in the bigs (.705). Cabrera would certainly boost the offense down the stretch run. Mike MoustakasLike Cabrera, Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas is a prominent hitter on a team playing out the string. The Royals sit in last place in the American League Central and need to undergo a significant rebuilding process. That may mean trading away Moustakas, who was a key member of the 2015 World Series team.Per Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports, the New York Yankees could be in the mix:Jon Heyman JonHeymanYankees have considered Mike Moustakas. See the asking price as high for now.Moustakas is hitting the cover off the ball this year, smacking 20 home runs to go along with a .778 OPS. The problem is that Moose isn't a great fit for the Yankees, who have one of the deepest lineups in baseball.Miguel Andujar (12 home runs, 41 RBI, .826 OPS) has done an excellent job at third http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-jed-lowrie-jersey , Moustakas' regular position. The Royals slugger could conceivably play first base or moonlight at designated hitter, but first baseman Greg Bird is rounding into form after an injury-plagued start (.800 OPS in July), and DH is always rotated between other Yankees' sluggers such as Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge.Granted, Sanchez and Judge are both on disabled list stints right now, but where would Moustakas fit when that duo comes back before the playoffs?Ultimately, acquiring Moustakas would almost seem like an unnecessary luxury. He'd be better off on a team that needs to fill a gap at the hot corner.Adam JonesThe Baltimore Orioles have traded Manny Machado and Zach Britton, and now the next player to go might be center fielder Adam Jones, a five-time All-Star who has been with the O's since 2008.Per Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, "one source familiar with the discussions said the odds are "55-45" that Jones changes teams between now and Tuesday's deadline." He also noted that "as multiple outlets have reported, theCleveland IndiansandPhiladelphia Philliesboth have interest in Jones."Jones is having a respectable season at the plate, swatting 10 home runs Tony Phillips Jersey , knocking in 38 runners and posting a .724 OPS. On the flip side, he is having his worst season in the field (-1.2 defensive WAR, per Baseball Reference).Still, Jones would be a valuable pickup for a playoff-contending team. Of note, Cleveland seems like the obvious landing spot, so much so that it would be surprising if Jones doesn't land there should he get dealt.Michael Brantley, who has 12 homers, 57 RBI and an .823 OPS this year, has been the only consistent mainstay for the Tribe outfield this year. Elsewhere, the team has been beset by numerous injuries and hitting slumps. Jones can come in and lock down center field as the team prepares for the playoffs.
