He made the appeal before a trip to Bonn, Germany, for this year's UN climate conference, which he said comes at a pivotal moment.

"These reports send two clear messages: we need to accelerate climate action and we need to raise ambition," he told reporters here at UN Headquarters.


Guterres asked to further cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020.


To that end, carbon pricing is an important instrument that must be developed, he said. "The window of opportunity to meet the 2-degree target may close in 20 years or less -- and we may have only five years to bend the emissions curve towards 1.5 degrees."


He called for funds for developing countries. "We need to mobilize the agreed 100 U.S. billion dollars annually for developing countries. This is crucial to spur action and to build trust. We are far from having that entirely guaranteed."


Guterres said he would convene a climate summit in September 2019 "to mobilize political and economic energy at the highest levels."


WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers starting point guard Derrick Rose will miss at least the next two weeks with a sprained left ankle, the club confirmed on Friday.


The Cavaliers said Rose had additional tests Friday at the Cleveland Clinic Sports Health Center. Rose's ankle will be immobilized in a boot for the next week, and he will undergo "an extended treatment process over the next two to three weeks", the club added.


"I'm just trying to figure it out. I'm getting a lot of treatment for it, and it will be my first time wearing a boot. So I'll wear this for I don't know how long, to see how it helps," Rose said.


Rose injured the ankle last month at Milwaukee and missed four games, then returned before missing Cleveland's past four games.


He said he has been icing his ankle at least three to four times a day to contend with the swelling.


"It's just a sprained ankle," he added. "Just a bum ankle. It's frustrating. I just got to take my time. Hopefully this boot will take some pressure off it and I'm able to heal. Right now I'm just trying to keep my spirits up."


The 29-year-old Rose is averaging 14.3 points in seven games this season. The former league MVP signed with the Cavs as a free agent this summer after spending last season with the New York Knicks.
