Computer components are categorized into 4 groups

As we all know that proper functioning of a particular functioning body is solely dependent on the functionality of its constituting components. The same applies to any computer system. For a reliable and consistently working system, quality components are necessary. Computer components can be characterized based on various qualities like what work they perform, which system they form a part of etc. On the basis of functionality, Computer components are categorized into 4 groups. These are input devices, output devices, secondary storage devices and processor and primary storage devices.


Input devices are those Computer components that work as an information transferring mediator to information processing systems. Keyboards, mouse, scanners, digital cameras etc. are the examples of input devices. As the name indicates secondary storage devices are those Computer components which are related to the function of storing data. Secondary storage computer devices are beyond the primary storage ones and they store the data permanently. Various secondary storage devices that form a crucial part of computer components are flash memory which consists of USB flash drives or keys, floppy disks, RAM disks, magnetic tape etc.
