For the second straight week, the Winnipeg Goldeyes teed off on Jason Jarvis. San Diego Padres Jerseys . The Goldeyes scored seven times in the first two innings off the Sioux City starter on their way to a 9-3 win over the Explorers on Tuesday night. "The bats were hot early," said Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea. "We jumped out to a big lead and that takes a lot of pressure of your starter and hes able to settle in." With the win, Winnipeg moves within 2 1/2 games of the wild card. The Gary SouthShore RailCats, holders of the final American Association playoff spot, had their game with the Wichita Wingnuts postponed due to rain. "We just got to keep putting the pressure on them," said Vermilyea. "If they see us winning games, they might start playing a little tighter. Every game counts and we just got to keep on winning." Winnipeg scored twice in the opening inning off RBI hits from Yurendell de Caster and Ray Sadler. Then, they would bust it open in the second. Luis Alen expanded the lead to three when he came home on an error by Explorers third baseman Jeff Squier. That was the second error of the inning by Squier and Sioux City had yet to record an out. With the score now 5-0, Sadler and Josh Mazzola hit back-to-back, bases loaded singles with two outs to bring the Goldeyes lead to seven. That would cap a five-run, five-hit inning for the Fish. The errors by Squier and an additional one committed by Jarvis made all five runs unearned for the Explorers starter. Sadlers second double of the game brought home one of the two runs scored by the Goldeyes in the fourth inning to make it 9-0. That would be more than enough run support for Goldeyes starter Matt Jackson, who picked up his second win as a member of the Goldeyes. He worked eight innings and gave up a run in the fourth and two in the fifth, but Sioux City could not comeback from the large early deficit. Jarvis went five and a third innings and took the loss after the Goldeyes hit him for nine runs - four earned - on 14 hits. His previous start was last week in Winnipeg, where he gave up 11 runs in less than four innings of work. The Goldeyes will continue their playoff push tomorrow in the third game of this four-game set. Edgar Osuna gets the start for Winnipeg. FRANKFURT, Germany -- Hoffenheim retained its unbeaten record in the Bundesliga by battling with Eintracht Frankfurt to 0-0 in an ill-tempered match that saw Eintracht defender Timothy Chandler sent off on Friday. There were virtually no chances on either side but plenty of fouls and dirty play in a match that threatened to get out of control at any time.Chandler was set off in the 83rd minute after a melee, apparently for grabbing the neck of Hoffenheim striker Sandro Wagner.Referee Christian Dingert did not give a yellow card until the 52nd, to Eintracht midfielder Marco Fabian, despite the many fouls. By the end of the match, he had handed out eight yellow cards and one red.I really dont know why he got the red, I wasnt really aware, Wagner said of Chandler. I think he was trying to protect me.After watching a replay, Wagner said, I guess he put his hand to my neck but I didnt really feel it. Its a foootball match, it happens. Ozzie Smith Jersey. I hope he doesnt get punished too harshly.Wagner was involved in another situation that should have produced a red card but went unpunished, when he was elbowed in the face by defender David Abraham.Eintracht captain Alexander Meier said the referee was too lenient in the first half. There were a lot of fouls from the start, maybe he should have given a yellow or two, Meier said. After the match, Eintracht coach Niko Kovac and his Hoffenheim counterpart Julian Nagelsmann had a heated discussion that also involved the referee. The match featured two of the leagues surprise teams but never lived up to expectations.Hoffenheim is the only unbeaten team apart from leader Leipzig. After 14 matches, Hoffenheim stayed fourth, one slot above Frankfurt.
