SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's unification ministry on Tuesday disapproved an opposition lawmaker's visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) while allowing 14 other businessmen and delegates to travel to the country.


Rep. Park Ji-won of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy applied for his travel to the Kaesong industrial complex in the DPRK's southwest at the invitation of Kim Yang Gon, director of the DPRK's United Front Department in charge of inter- Korean affairs.


Park visited Kaesong, DPRK's border town not far from the demarcation line, along with six other delegates from the Kim Dae Jung Peace Center on Dec. 16 to deliver a wreath commemorating the third anniversary of the death of late DPRK leader Kim Jong Il, father of current leader Kim Jong Un.


Park, who was a close aide to the late South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, conveyed the wreath in the name of Lee Hee-ho, the late president's wife, at that time.


Despite the DPRK's invitation of Park to deliver its gratitude for the wreath, South Korea reportedly disapproved Park's visit on worries about political controversy over the opposition lawmaker's repeated visit to the DPRK.


Seoul and Pyongyang failed to hold inter-governmental, high- level talks for the scattering of anti-DPRK leaflets by South Korean civic groups. They exchanged fire near land and sea borders, while trading words condemning each other.


Seven delegates from the Kim Dae Jung Peace Center, including former Culture Minister Kim Seong-jae, will visit Kaesong Wednesday along with seven businessmen from Hyundai Asan, including Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun.
