BERLIN Matt Moore Jersey , Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The new accident statistics of the German Alpine Club (DAV) said on Tuesday that fewer DAV members died at mountaineering, but the number of emergencies in total has risen.
The German Alpine Club (DAV) unveiled on Tuesday in Munich its climbing accident statistics for the past two years.
As the statistics showed, a total of 28 members died in 2012, which is the lowest in the 61-year history of the DAV-statistics, while 36 members died in 2013, which hit the third lowest value.
The DAV spokesman Thomas Bucher told German local media that the decline in deaths toll can be attributed to mobile phones with which one can call for help in time and the high-quality equipment.
"Besides, today's weather forecasts are more reliable. Hikers are no longer surprised by the storm, which can be very dangerous in the mountains,” said Bucher.
However, the number of emergencies reached record high, as a total of 1,126 DAV members ran into difficulties or had an accident in last two years.
Despite the fact that the number of members in the club rose above one million, "Much of the rescue tasks are down to the excessive demand of mountain athletes," Bucher said adding that many of them are avoidable.
As the statistics showed, among all the mountain sports, especially the climbers seem to overestimate themselves, and they were often overstrained by their route.
"It is a bone-deep change you are going into, my beloved," counsels Grandmother Growth. "You must open to your very marrow for this transformation. No cell is to remain untouched. You are to open more than you ever dreamed you could open, more than you have opened in birth or in passion. You open now to the breath of mortality as it plays the bone flute of your being. What can you do but dance to the haunting melody, develop a passion for an elegant posture and a long stride?
