We are back with another scouting report. Today, our focus is on the offense and the tight end position as we get a closer look at Alabama product Irv Smith Jr. The San Francisco 49ers struck gold with George Kittle, who is now amongst the best tight ends in the league. Kittle is by far the 49ers best receiving option, and the scary part is that he is only going to get better. Now, just think about how much more effective and scary this offense can be if the team elects to pair Kittle with another dynamic tight end. Let’s jump on in and see if Irv Smith Jr. can be that potential prospect who could add value and purpose to this 49ers’ offense.Combine Results:40 Yard Dash: 4.63Bench Press: 19 RepsVertical Jump: 32.5”Broad Jump: 110.0”3 Cone Drill: 7.3220 Yard Shuttle: 4.3360 Yard Shuttle: 12.44Measureables:Height: 6’2”Weight: 242 lbs.Hands: 9 陆”Arms: 31 陆”Summary:Irv Smith made a big impact for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Smith might be the best run-blocking tight end this draft class has to offer. Demonstrates good hand placement as an incline blocker, along with the footwork and reach to block along the edge. Has tremendous leverage and controls his blockers from start to finish. Works his angles extremely well, and does a great job of sealing off rush lanes. While I wouldn’t call Smith a burner, he does have above average speed which helps him create separation. Builds up speed and has demonstrated his ability to make catches at all three levels on the field. Often times on tape, Smith looked like a mismatch for linebackers in man-to-man coverage downfield. He is an accurate San Francisco 49ers T-Shirts , and precise route runner that can stretch the field vertically. His variety of routes took him all over the field, and often put him in a position to get open for his quarterback. On tape, Smith often pushed through initial contact on his initial routes. Has strong and secure hands to reel in contested catches in tight windows and throwing lanes. I like the spring in Smith’s lower body which allows him to elevate and make a play on jump balls both inside and outside the numbers. Will fight through initial contact and tacklers for additional yards after the reception. Smith is a dynamic dual-threat talent on the field who can make a big impact in both the running and passing game.Is Smith A Fit for the 49ers?Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY SportsAfter witnessing the season George Kittle just had it is easy to say tight end is not high on the priority list. It certainly isn’t the most pressing need. However, just stop and think for a moment how dangerous this offense can be with two dynamic tight ends on the field. What I like most about Smith is his dual-threat abilities as a blocker and a pass catcher. Yes, he is a bit undersized, however Smith has the potential and ceiling to be a three-down starter down the road at the next level. He would create a nice balance with George Kittle in this offense. His elite run blocking abilities and threat as a receiver at all three levels on the field is intriguing to say the least. The question becomes if Kyle Shanahan has a vision for his offense with two playmaking tight ends. If that is the case, I believe in terms of value and skill set, Irv Smith Jr. might be amongst the best options. The last question is if the 49ers value a tight end with the 36th overall pick. Right now, I have Smith valued right around where the 49ers select in the second round. What are YOUR thoughts on Irv Smith Jr.? Would you consider Smith with pick 36 or a trade back in the 2nd round? Please share in the comments below! Fooch’s update: Goodwin met with the media after practiceThe San Francisco 49ers welcome back one of their starting wide receivers this weekend, as Marquise Goodwin will be available for the team’s Week 14 home game against the Denver Broncos. He has been away from the team the past two weeks while dealing with difficult family issues, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said he is ready to and looked good this week in practice. The team will be without wide receiver Pierre Gar莽on, who has been ruled out with a knee injury. He has gotten limited work in the past few weeks, and Shanahan has said he would be available if needed https://www.49ersfanshop.com/hats , but the knee injury is something they don’t want to push him on at this point. The big question for Week 14 is what this means for rookie Dante Pettis. Over the past two weeks, he has been the 49ers leading receiver while serving as the X receiver. Goodwin handles that role, and Shanahan would not say whether Pettis would move over to Garon’s flanker role, or what exactly. He did say that Pettis is capable of playing any of the three receiver positions, so there is some flexibility there. The other notable injury is nickel back K’Waun Williams, who is listed as questionable. He suffered a knee injury and was added to Thursday’s injury report. D.J. Reed is the backup slot corner, but Reed is also potentially the team’s starting free safety. If Williams can’t go, that will likely result in Antone Exum starting at free safety and Reed moving into the slot role.49ers final injury reportOut: RB Matt Breida (ankle), WR Pierre Garcon (knee), S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder)Questionable: CB K’Waun Williams (knee)Broncos final injury reportOut: LB Shaquil Barrett (hip), CB Tramaine Brock (ribs), CB Chris Harris (fibula)Questionable: LB Brandon Marshall (knee)
