some public comments from a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver that don’t exactly look great. Living in the Twitter age can have that effect.Last year it was Dez Bryant and Brice Butler that let the world hear their thoughts www.thecowboysfootballauthentic.com , these days it’s Cole Beasley. Time sure does fly.The Saucemaster took exception with the way that he was used this season, calling out the Cowboys front office for having a hand in the way that targets are distributed. It’s true that the Cowboys FO did orchestrate a trade for Amari Cooper in the middle of the season and that obviously changed the way the rest of the receivers were used in the passing game, but the entire world knew how necessary a dynamic wideout was at the time and Dallas was proven correct by Cooper’s dominance. All of this seemed to come out of nowhere for Beasley. Sure it’s been some time since he was pouring sauce on a much more frequent basis, but to come out and imply that the front office is pushing targets in a direction that isn’t his? It’s weird.Cole Beasley’s targets per game post-Amari were the second-most he’s ever seen in his careerThe Cowboys played seven games without Amari Cooper in 2018 and maybe Cole got used to the uptick in targets. Looking at the rest of his career though things were relatively the same post-Amari as they were from 2012-2017.Cole Beasley Average Targets Per Game:2012: 2.42013: 3.92014: 3.12015: 4.72016: 6.12017: 4.22018 Pre-Amari: 6.12018 Post-Amari: 4.9(playoffs not included)It should also be noted that Cole Beasley was targeted the exact same number of times as Amari Cooper during both the Indianapolis and Tampa Bay games. That’s two of the nine games that Cooper was part of the Cowboys for meaning he, the top receiver on the team, only saw more targets on seven occasions. Twice Beasley was just as “valued.”Beasley also had some words specifically about the subjects of Cooper and targets in the Twittersphere. It’s hard to tell what emotion he’s feeling at this exact moment, but for whatever reason at the very least he obviously feels like talking about it.Beasley is clearly saying that he got the same targets pre- and post-Amari (although this isn’t true) which brings up the question... why is he saying he hasn’t been a huge priority when he was at a higher priority after Amari arrived than he ever was during his first six seasons with the team?Beasley is definitely used in two-minute situations more than anythingWhere Beasley is absolutely right is in saying that he sees a significant uptick in targets in two-minute situations. When the going gets tough, the Cowboys are typically looking for their elite slot weapon. It’s fair to imagine that someone in that situation would feel slighted. You continually prove yourself when the pressure is highest yet you’re not looked upon in designed situations. Cowboys fans implored the team to use Beasley more throughout the season but for whatever reason they didn’t. Considering Beasley is looked to when things “aren’t planned” that would seem to indicate that if anybody is aware of what he can do that it’s certainly Dak Prescott. For what it’s worth this is a sentiment that Beasley agrees with. This whole things feels weird. Cole Beasley randomly decided to call out the Cowboys front office on a Tuesday afternoon and hours later he was dropping eye emojis when the subject of playing in Green Bay came up. The writing on the wall seems to suggest that he could be moving on this season as many have suggested.Whatever ultimately happens with Cole Beasley Dallas Cowboys T-Shirt , including returning to the Cowboys, it doesn’t change that he has given his all to this team for seven years now. There have been many good times and all we can do is hope that there are more ahead. Fingers crossed. As we trudge through the 2019 offseason, our minds will ultimately wander into projecting the next regular season in some way. It’s inevitable as we are starved of football and the juice that comes from that weekly competition. Sure, the Super Bowl has yet to be played, and there is always free agency, the draft, and the start of training camp serving as oases along the way. But nothing quite satisfies like real football. In that spirit, let’s project ahead to the 2019 regular season and think about players who might be the breakout stars of that campaign. Granted Dallas Cowboys Hats , the term breakout is nebulous and can stretch in multiple ways. For this exercise, we’re going to define it in a very unscientific way. The breakout player will be a player that even casual fans of other teams will be well aware of by the end of the year. For example, no one was really talking much about Byron Jones, except for Cowboys fans, during his time in Dallas previous to the 2018 campaign. Now, he’s thought of as one of the better cornerbacks in the league and made the Pro Bowl. He’s become a known entity across the league. 2018 was most definitely a breakout year for Jones. Here are two candidates for breakout years in 2019, one on offense and one on defense.Offense - Michael GallupCowboys fans know the potential the rookie wide receiver Michael Gallup showed in 2018. Gallup had 33 catches for 507 yards with two touchdowns. Those are respectable numbers for a rookie wideout, especially on an offensively-challenged team like the Cowboys. But any Cowboys observer will tell you that was not near what it could have been. For whatever reason Dallas Cowboys Womens Hoodie , Dak Prescott and Gallup could not get on the same page on the long ball. There were a handful of plays where Gallup had easily beat his coverage deep but the pass from Prescott was off target. Gallup’s yards and touchdown totals could have been much higher had those plays worked out. Perhaps another offseason of work between Gallup and Prescott will tighten up those long bombs.Additionally, the trade for Amari Cooper opened up the Cowboys offense. In 2019, teams are not going to let Cooper beat them. Teams will be double-teaming Cooper and coverages will definitely be slanted his way. Gallup should be the beneficiary of that attention on the other side. Look for Gallup to become a full-fledged force in 2019.Defense - Randy GregoryPlenty of people know about Randy Gregory throughout NFL fanbases. Unfortunately, it’s not for his play on the field. Fans have had their fun ridiculing the seemingly wasted second-round pick the Cowboys dropped on Gregory in the 2015 draft. Suspensions have robbed Gregory of playing time as he’s had a rough road in terms of getting his personal life together. This past year, it all started to come together for Gregory. On the field, he was showing the promise that would have made him a “top of the first round” pick without the off-field baggage. Gregory had six sacks and many more QB pressures, and gave left tackles fits this season. On the down side, he committed some very costly penalties Womens Customized Dallas Cowboys Jerseys , but his skills were finally starting to shine.Betting on Gregory to keep his sobriety and to say out of the NFL’s doghouse is always a risky proposition. That reason alone is the biggest threat to him becoming a breakout star. On the other hand, if he has conquered his demons to the extent he can stay on the field, participate fully in all of the offseason programs and practices, come 2019 he should be a terror on the field. 2019 could be the season we see double-digit sacks from Gregory.Who are your candidates for breakout players in 2019?
