The running game lacks a number one running back with the loss of Jay Ajayi. Ajayi wasn’t tearing it up anyway. He ended his season with 184 yards on 43 carries. It’s not a bad average per carry (4.1 yards) but they typically found themselves behind early and therefore abandoned the running game. When I look at the Pro Football Focus grades for their defense I see their biggest weakness in the interior of the defensive line. So I’m hoping for some tough running up the middle followed up with deadly play action. Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner expressed a desire to generate more big plays in the passing game. That would seem to be a good strategy versus this Eagles team.On the other side of the ball the Eagles pass defense has been ripped by perimeter wide receivers. I therefore hope we see a lot of targets to wide receiver Devin Funchess and whoever starts across from him. That has been Torrey Smith but I would prefer it to be D.J. Moore or Curtis Samuel. For some reason I don’t think that will happen.
