The singer will guest on the long-running BBC Radio 4 program when it returns for its new series next month.


Sheeran has already recorded his appearance, which will air May 7, with presenter Kirsty Young.


He will choose the eight pieces of music he would most want to have with him if he was stranded on an island.


Sheeran has been going from strength to strength this year, with his latest album “Divide” topping the charts and its lead single “Shape of You” enjoying a 13-week reign at number one.

HARBIN, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Researchers have found a large number of Aldrovanda vesiculosa, an endangered species commonly known as waterwheel plants, in a wetland in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, local authorities said Friday.


Researchers from universities and Qixinghe National Nature Reserve identified more than 5,000 waterwheel plants scattered in an area of over 600 square meters in the reserve during an observation tour between Sept. 20 and 23, according to the provincial forestry department.


Waterwheel is a rootless and free-floating plant, like an aquatic Venus flytrap. It was under class one national protection in 1999 and listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.


""Waterwheel plants have strict requirements for water, which needs to be shallow, warm and extremely clean,"" said Yao Yunlong from the Northeast Forestry University, which participated in the research.


Yao said the discovery showed a better local environment driven by China's stronger ecological protection. The Chinese leadership are emphasizing ecological protection, demanding an increase in the size of forests, lakes and wetlands.


China boasts 577 nature reserves and 468 wetland parks. The push for preservation has gone as far as becoming part of the criteria for assessing local government officials in some regions.


Waterwheel plants are found in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. In China, it only spreads in Heilongjiang. Yao said they first found this species in 2015 in a wetland in the province but only a small quantity.

The American Idol judging panel is locked in!


After weeks of speculation, Luke Bryan took to Twitter on Friday to confirm that he'll be joining the ABC reboot, alongside Lionel Richie and previously announced judge Katy Perry.


""Hey guys, it's Luke Bryan here. Greetings from Hayfield in Kansas. I'm so excited and proud to announce that I will be one of the three judges on ABC's American Idol,"" Bryan began his video message. ""I will be joined with the beautiful Ms. Katy Perry and my hero, Mr. Lionel Richie, and my fellow Georgia boy, Ryan Seacrest.""


""Can't wait to see you guys. Can't wait to be a part of the show, and I'm so excited to see all the talent out there that America has,"" he continued. ""Make sure you guys stay tuned. We'll be blowing up our socials. It's going to be an exciting year. I'm so honored and we're going to have some fun.""


Richie quickly followed up by sharing a photo of his official Idol portrait.

Perry, who wac's first judge in May, revealed in an interview with Seacrest last month that she was pulling hard for Richie to join her on the judges table.


“I’m really pulling for Lionel, because I think Lionel is an icon, and not only that, but if you’ve ever met Lionel, he just knows how to charm the whole room,"" she said, praising the 68-year-old singer-songwriter. ""I love Lionel.”


Bryan, meanwhile, reportedly joined the show earlier this month for $13 million -- $3 million higher than Richie, according to TMZ. Perry reportedly scored a payday of $25 million, while Seacrest is earning somewhere between $10 and $15 million.


And though Bryan and Richie have just joined the team, auditions for Idol have been going on since August without any judges.
