ADDIS ABABA， March 15 (Xinhua) -- Long-serving president Issa Hayatou of Cameroon will face challenge from Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar at the 39th General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) kicked off on Wednesday.


In its two-day event， CAF are expected to hold election for its presidency when about 500 participants including CAF member countries and famous soccer players are taking part in the event.


Upon his arrival on Tuesday here in Addis Ababa， Hayatou said efforts are underway to boost number of African countries at the World Cup tournament.


The Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) quoted Hayatou as saying， "We are striving to increase the number of countries representing Africa in the World Cup whereby there are bright sides of it that efforts are still underway to let Africa have ten representative countries in the World Cup."


The 39th ordinary session of CAF is coincided with the 60th anniversary of the continental football governing body here in Addis Ababa， capital of the East African country.


The CAF General Assembly is expected to discuss various issues concerning ways of developing football across the African continent.


The Forum on evolution of African football was conducted Wednesday on the premises of the African Union (AU)， with focus on political & historical， economic， social， and sporting dimensions.
