LOS ANGELES, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Plus-size model, Natalie Hage, denounced a man who had fat shamed her on a flight to Los Angeles on social media last Friday, and her experience of confronting the discrimination aroused huge response.
Hage, 30, living in Texas, is a popular figure on website. She has 1.26 million followers on Instagram, and her story occurring and posted last week received more than 1.5 million clicks until Tuesday.
Hage paid about 70 U.S. dollars for a seat with extra leg room on a flight from Dallas to Los Angeles last Friday. However there are only middle seats available. Later, she saw the man sitting on her left texted something, and turn the phone away from her on purpose. She read the text and found it was about her. She said she asked the man sitting on the exit row to change seat, telling him her experience, but he just refused.
After landing, Hage decided to confront the man while videotaping the conversation.
In the video posted on Facebook, she asked: "Can you assume something about me? Are you a medical professional? I would just love to know where your expertise is coming from."
"That's none of your business," the man shouted back.
"My body is also none of your business, so you have no idea what I can or can't do with it," she answered.
The man named Eric first denied the comment, but then apologized later when Hage quoted his words to challenge him. He slammed Hage again by questioning she should not sit on the exit row because she could not help others when an emergency happened. Hage explained that she works out five times a week and she is a model. The man apologized again and offered to buy her dinner.
The clips posted on Facebook was shared about 4,000 times, and most viewers support her while some people criticize her for prying other people's privacy.
